Taronga Zoo

No trip to Sydney would be complete without the obligatory voyage to the Taronga Zoo…

We took a ferry over that looked like this:

(but not one that was about to crash into another one)

Coming from Manhattan, a city of so much impressive architecture and so many notable buildings, I’d wondered how the Sydney Opera House could in itself be so noteworthy and define a city.  But I have to say it is truly striking in person, just gorgeous, not to mention the setting on the harbor.  These photos don’t do it justice whatsoever compared to seeing it with your own eyes.

We rode the gondola over the zoo to get to the top of the hill
and then make our way back down to the exit.

Can you move like an emu can??

We were too late for the koala bear photo op, so this would have to do!

It was the most spectacular setting for a zoo I'd ever seen!

(There were actual live animals at the zoo also!)

Heading home.

The kids loved it.  They never stopped running from exhibit to exhibit in excitement.  And such a gorgeous setting with Sydney Harbor in the distance!
