Another sunny Saturday, gotta love Sydney's "winter"! We head to Bondi Beach for the day.
Bondi Beach's best-kept secret: The Crabbe Hole, the casual brunch/lunch spot under the world-famous Icebergs swimming club. You wouldn't see it walking along the street as you take unmarked stairs to get to it. It's a slim little restaurant overlooking the pool with tasty light fare, a cool vibe, and spectacular views...
Bondi Beach
View from the Crabbe Hole; that's a tidal swimming pool in front where
the surf safely crashes over swimmers.
Julia was rocking her Mr. T look this day.
After lunch we went for a cliff walk starting at Bondi, then through Tamarama and Bronte Beaches. We were planning to go through to Coogee Beach as well but got confused and thought the walk ended at Bronte, until late in the day just as we were leaving realized it started again a little further up the hill. Will have to come back another day to do the whole thing. Quite magnificent views, despite my mild motion sickness from the constant giant waves crashing. Or maybe it was anxiety. Even though I knew we were safe on the beach, I think I had wave angst being so close to the danger of that enormous churning surf.
In any case, if you ever get to Sydney, I highly recommend this walk!! Just gorgeous.
Bronte Beach
Less than 30 minutes from downtown Sydney...
Date night
After a fun, full day, we Dial an Angel and leave the kids at home for the evening. Saw Bridesmaids (I'm sure you don't need me to tell you, it was hilarious) and headed to Berta for dinner. The restaurant was down a back alley through an unmarked door. As in New York, half way round the world, the definition of cool means secret passageways and in-the-know smugness, in our case gained from a Sydney Morning Herald food guide book. Very downtown feel and excellent food based on local seasonal selections. I think it was organic and sustainable and recyclable and all that crap, but what I cared about is, it tasted reeeally good.
