Featherdale Wildlife Park

We head to the Blue Mountains for the weekend.  On the way we stop at the Featherdale Wildlife Park about an hour outside of Sydney.  Featherdale is a large petting zoo where the kangaroos run wild and the koalas are available for petting all day long.  For my animal-loving progeny, it was heaven on earth.  (Not sure how the animals felt about it.)

Wallabies.

A Laurie and a joey.

"Hopefully this spot is safe from that little girl!"

As in their natural habitat, you fed the animals ice cream cones filled with a mixture of grains.

Wombat.

While it rained the kids hung out in the barnyard.

Three generations of koala tourist photos:  like my aunt and grandmother before her, I now have one of these priceless remembrances.  I can pretty much go home now.

Tasmanian devil - true to his reputation, he ran round and round his cage and would stop periodically to spin around and around.

Emu.

Albino kangaroo.

Dingoes.

Katoomba

We drove into Katoomba, a small town in the heart of the Blue Mountains.  We checked into our hotel and then headed into town for dinner at the Savoy.  It was casual, friendly and a perfect way to end the day.  Daddy ordered a kangaroo burger (we kept this on the down-low from the children).  It tasted a bit gamey and chewy and you can see why it's not commonly used in food dishes, aside from the cute factor.

One little Jedi Warrior conked out in between our pit stop at Target and Katoomba.
